2025 has some notable anniversaries, and it's a great year to visit the U.K. for some fun celebrations. For all you Jane Austen (and Mr. Darcy) lovers, 2025 marks 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen, and the historic town of Bath, England is hosting the Jane Austen Festival from September 12-21. There will be elegant balls, and special exhibitions and events all over England, and this June you can visit Chatsworth House (pictured above), which is famous for being Dr. Darcy's Pemberley Estate, and attend a series of talks and Regency-era parties. You'll want to include the Hampshire region to visit Jane's house museum in the quiet village of Chawton, where she wrote six of her most famous novels. There are many ways to tailor a Jane Austen themed literary adventure in England any time of the year.
2025 is also the 75th anniversary of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Scotland's capital will showcase global military displays and cultural performances from August 1-23 against the iconic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, and this year promises to be extra spectacular. The famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival happens at the same time which is why the city population doubles every August, so booking early is key to getting the tickets and hotels you want.
2025 is the 80th Anniversary of the end of World War II, and if Hawaii is in your summer plans, let's plan a trip to the Battleship Missouri Memorial from August 31 – September 2 for special anniversary events. Returning USS Missouri crewmembers who witnessed the surrender ceremony in Tokyo Bay and crew members who served during the Korean War and Gulf War will be honored, and you can see new exhibit openings plus after-hours events and their annual commemoration ceremony.
