A Spring Break to Remember

"Grace is not part of consciousness; it is the amount of light in our souls, not knowledge nor reason." ― Pope Francis

This month, the Nine Muses Travel calendar is happily full with families and friends traveling for Spring Break, and one family in particular is making some extraordinary memories in Italy. On Sunday they took a train from Venice to Rome for the next part of their Italian adventure, then on their first full day in Rome, Pope Francis passed away. Now they're experiencing Rome and the Vatican at an historic moment, awed by the outpouring, and the dad even got interviewed by a Swedish radio station yesterday! Today they've got their Private Vatican Museums Tour I arranged for them, and they'll be led through a selection of Vatican masterpieces that culminates with the Sistine Chapel, where the cardinals will soon gather in the papal conclave to elect the next Pope.

The whole complex of buildings we now call the Vatican Museums was originally built and used as the official residence of the Popes. It wasn't open to the public until 1771 when Pope Clement XIV allowed visitors in to see one of the best art collection in the world, including tapestries, paintings, Roman statues, and the Gallery of the Geographical maps - a long corridor where all the geographical knowledge of Italy in the 16th century is shown in a fascinating succession. I'm sure this couple and their sons will be telling the story of their historic trip to Rome for the rest of their lives.

Elsewhere in the world, another family of four returned home last night from an exhilarating jungle and beach journey through Belize, a married couple are relaxing this week in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in the South of France, an intrepid female solo traveler is on a small group tour through Peru, another married couple are enjoying a four-day getaway sail with Celebrity Cruises to Cozumel, and today a client and her friend arrive in Santa Fe to check into Inn and Spa at Loretto. They'll be enjoying a city walking tour, a homemade brunch prepared at the chef's own "gourmet inn" in Santa Fe, and taking a guided tour of Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio in Abiquiu and a Ghost Ranch hiking tour, while surrounded by the stunning scenery of Northern New Mexico.

I LOVE working with all of these clients and am delighted at the diversity of experiences they're having!
