"I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual."
— Henry David Thoreau
Wherever you were on Thanksgiving, I hope it was a day when you could reflect on love and gratitude. I had to cancel my own plans to visit family last minute and got a peaceful staycation. I gave my home some TLC and have it feel like someone actually lives here full time instead of in and out of a suitcase. I told someone last week about my epic year of travel, and he showed me this David Cross video. We cracked up because I related way too much! (My cat is also happy I'm home for a little while.)
During those days of unexpected free time, I envisioned my year ahead with a focus on balance and a goal of losing some of the "global culinary research" weight I added to the scale. In hindsight 2024 felt like making up for lost time as I visited places that lingered too long on my wanderlist - like Namibia, South Africa, and Morocco. This year I got to go on my first African safari, climb desert sand dunes, ride a camel at sunset, plus take a boat ride in the Panama Canal, go snorkeling by the Pitons of Saint Lucia, visit the Virgo gravitational wave detector in Tuscany, enjoy a wine tasting on Corsica, mix my own scent in an Aix-en-Provence perfumery, see the Galeries Lafayette shops lit for Christmas in Paris (photo above), and so much more. The amount of beautiful memories and spellbinding moments this year is staggering to me, and of course I tasted a lot of delicious food along the way. No regrets!
My travels are filled with note taking, meetings, and networking, and while I soak in every second of it, I'm always aware that I'm working and that my job is to be the best travel advisor I can be for you. Just yesterday a new client called me, and we talked about a trip to Panama this winter filled with restorative time in nature and cultural explorations. Having been to Panama in May, my first hand experiences added to our discussions from the start, even before I started building a proposal with local partners. During our call I said at one point, "Everyone deserves travel." Did I just find a new catch phrase?
What I am most grateful for this year is having had the health and mobility to take all these adventures. We only get so many years on this wild planet, and I hope to help you make the most of them too. I'm grateful for you, for my clients, and for everyone who reads Muse News.
