Here on the other side of the 2024 election, Nine Muses Travel is still busy fulfilling travel wishes, and for many of you, the appeal of escapism is even more alluring now. If you want to go someplace unexpected, United Airlines is launching a new nonstop route from Newark to Nuuk (capital of Greenland - pictured above). They're the first U.S. airline with direct flights to Greenland, the world's largest island. From June 14, they'll have twice weekly service from June to September, and the flight is only around four hours! Nuuk, the biggest city in Greenland, has fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. A short walk from the city center takes you to the shores of the Nuuk Fjord, one of the world's largest fjord systems. Nuuk is home to great dining, art, crafts, fashion, architecture, museums, hiking, boating, and human history going back around 4,500 years. Nuuk is on my list now!
United Airlines is on a roll, and in May 2025, they're launching five other new flights from Newark to places no other U.S. airline serves including Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; and Portugal's Madeira Island as well as Faro on Portugal's Algarve coast. And from Washington D.C. Dulles, United is adding their first flight to Dakar, Senegal (year-round) and new seasonal nonstop flights to Nice and Venice.
