Jubilee Year in Italy

"Above all, let your love for one another be intense, because love covers a multitude of sins." – (1 Pet. 4:8)

2025 is a jubilee year in Italy, a time when Catholics around the world make a pilgrimage to Rome and the Vatican in community for events, celebrations, and spiritual renewal. I've been referencing the Jubilee major events list a lot because Italy remains a very popular destination for Nine Muses travelers this year and we've been keeping away from Rome during the larger jubilee gatherings. For example, according to the calendar, this weekend is the "Jubilee of the World of Volunteering. Volunteers from all associations, members of non-profit organizations, NGO workers and social workers are especially invited to this jubilee event." That sounds like a lovely assemblage of people actually. And I bet this one in May would be fun: The Jubilee of Bands and Popular Music when "all members of military, institutional, amateur, folk, village, sports, school and college bands are especially invited to this jubilee event, together with their families." If you actually want to visit during a jubilee event, let me know!

Last week I worked on a last-minute spring break request for Italy for a new client and her daughter who's studying art history in college, and within 48 hours we'd built a beautiful itinerary for Venice, Florence, and Rome that includes many major museums like The Accademia Gallery and Uffizi Gallery in Florence and Borghese Gallery in Rome. I also suggested a Medici Tour: History and Secrets Through the Monuments of the Family to delve even more into this family that's so important in Italian art history. I was sure to include one of my Florence favorites: The Palatine - the main gallery inside the Pitti Palace. (It's where the blissful photo of me down below was taken.) This was the Medici family's private collection, and it has around 500 Renaissance paintings. And of course, they'll be visiting the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, but they'll experience it in a more peaceful way by arriving at 7am before the daytime crowds. I just love working on itineraries that are rich with art and culture.

And here's a really fun summer vacation idea for the ladies: a women-only river cruise through Burgundy and Provence in France with Rachel Dratch from SNL performing a comedy set on board, followed by a Q&A. Now that's no Debbie Downer! It's a special sailing this August with Uniworld, a fully all-inclusive, luxury river cruise line, and it includes excursions not offered on their regular itineraries: a candlelight concert in Lyon, a visit to the International Shoe Museum, and the ancient Roman aqueduct of Nîmes at night for a light show. Plus there will be lavender weaving, truffle hunting, and a scenic bike ride to the Chartreuse. This would be an amazing girls trip.

What's on your wish list for this summer? (It's not too early to start planning for the winter holidays too!)
