Warming Up to Arctic Sweden & Norway

"A forest bird never wants a cage." ― Henrik Ibsen

Hello from Norway! I hope you had a really great Labor Day weekend. Some Nine Muses Travel clients spent it exploring Paris for the first time, relaxing in Aruba, enjoying a beach getaway in an historic hotel at Cape May, and returning home from a Holland America Northern European cruise with some bespoke private touring I arranged for them in Copenhagen and Oslo.

As for me, I'm in a small, international group of travel "buyers" (advisors, tour operators, etc.) headed to an Arctic Europe conference and enjoying our pre-tour that began on Sunday in Kiruna, Sweden - my first time inside the Arctic Circle! We've had glorious weather that's sunny and cool, the perfect weather for sightseeing and also hiking, which we did yesterday in Sweden's beautiful Abisko National Park. We followed a rushing river through a canyon and flowering meadows to the shores of Scandinavia's largest alpine lake - pictured above. Please, visit Nine Muses Travel's Facebook or Instagram pages to see more photos I took of this pretty trail; we had a lot of fun taking photos here!

Honestly, everything here begs to be photographed. I hope some of the pictures I'm taking begin to do it some justice, but there's nothing like being here. And it's so much easier to get to Arctic Europe than you might think. I'm learning so much about ways to plan an itinerary here, and I would so love for you to experience these vistas, breathe in this pristine air, and discover the local history.

After hiking and lunching in Abisko yesterday, we continued to Narvik, Norway. On June 4th it was announced that Narvik will host the 2029 Alpine World Ski Championships, and this town is stoked. I recommend coming to Narvik soon, before the rest of the world realizes how special this place is. Narvik has incredible World War II history, and their war museum tells its story in a well-designed, modern facility. We toured some unique accommodations with stunning views then took the gondola up to our awaiting dinner as we watched the sun set behind the mountains.

I was the only one in our group who had never seen the Northern Lights - until last night! We spent the night at Scandic Narvik hotel, and from its sky bar outdoor patio we gathered to see if the lights would show themselves. And even before the sky was fully dark, the lights appeared and danced their shape-shifting way in and out of view. I took so many photos, and you'll find those on Nine Muses Travel's Instagram and Facebook too. You don't need to wait for winter to see the Northern Lights!

Now today we're going to Lofoten, Norway to sail through its archipelago, learn all about the area, and spend the night there in Svolvær. This is the tour day I've been waiting for most, and I hope you'll follow along as I post more gorgeous photos of this spectacular part of the world. I have so much to share with you about Arctic Sweden and Norway, and if this is resonating for you, please get in touch!
